Avengers Academy Review

So for any of you who don’t know what Avengers Academy is, it’s an app where you create your own academy for teenage versions of your favorite superheroes such as Iron Man & Captain America as well as a couple of villains which includes Loki, The Enchantress and Taskmaster. The app is available on Google Play for those of you on Android devices. It is also available in the App Store for those of you on Mac devices.

Okay! So to move on to the actual review of the app, I will be reviewing the app using my own opinions on the gameplay, graphics and other aspects of the game.

Gameplay – Avengers Academy is basically a time management tycoon game, you have a list of actions that you can make your heroes (and villains) do to complete missions, missions which give you rewards that you can use towards unlocking a new hero or villain. Some of the actions however take way too long to complete in my opinion, some taking as long as 8 hours. While for many this style of gameplay in an app would get boring, I personally find it addictive so I’ll give the gameplay a 4 out of 5.

Graphics/Art – The graphics in Avengers Academy reminds me of a cartoony video game or even a comic book that was targeted towards children. I personally don’t love this kind of art but I also don’t hate it, I’ll give the graphics a 3 out of 5.

Story – The app has around three different storylines that all occur around the same time. You have a story that involves Hydra, you have a story that involves A.I.M and then you have a story around something called the Timefog. Overall I’m not that interested in the stories and it seems like the stories are just there to be there so I’ll give the stories a 2 out of 5.

Overall, I enjoy playing this game and while it may have a few bugs it seems like the developers of the game (TinyCo) are looking to improve it and make it more enjoyable so I’ll give the app a 7.5/10.

UPDATE: TinyCo has released multiple events since I have posted this review which have not accompanied updates to the main story, but they do completely take over the app while they’re around because of how difficult they are unless you spend all of your time playing it. It has become more of a job to play the game but I will keep playing because of my Marvel Addiction.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Peter Parker is a science genius that lives with his Uncle Ben & Aunt May, along with living next door to Mary Jane Watson, eventually Aunt May introduced Peter to Mary Jane. In Amazing Fantasy #15 he was bitten by a radio-active spider at a science exhibit and was given the powers of agility, strength & the ability of sticking to walls & ceilings. Thanks to his gift in science he was able to create an invention which gives him the ability to fire adhesive spider webs from his wrist. Upon receiving these spider like powers, he creates a costume & becomes a television star. However when he denies the chance to stop a thief on the run, he soon starts wishing he stopped the thief when he finds that the thief had shot & killed his uncle Ben. Upon seeing his own uncle die before his eyes, he chases down the killer & then learns that with great power, comes great responsibility when Peter subdues the killer. Also, even with Peter’s new powers, he struggles to help his aunt May to help pay for the rent & is taunted by his peers, mostly by Flash Thompson & as Spider-Man has to endure the wrath of J. Jonah Jameson, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle. As Peter starts to battle his first enemy, he finds that switching from Peter Parker to Spider-Man very difficult. Eventually Peter graduates from high school & goes to Empire State University. During his days in college, he meets Harry Osborne & Gwen Stacy. As Peter helped Harry with a drug problem, Peter also found out that Harry’s father is none other then Spider-Man’s nemesis, the Green Goblin, Peter also attempted to give up his role as Spider-Man & failed. During a battle between Spider-man & Doctor Octopus, Gwen Stacy’s father, George Stacy was killed during the battle. During Peter’s reign as Spider-Man he met many friends & contacts in the superhero community.
